My journey into IRC

Introduction

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a text-based chat system for instant messaging. IRC is designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels. It also allows one-on-one communication via private messages. ~ Wikipedia It was developed by Jarkko Oikarinen, introduced late August, 1988. As of June 2021, there are 481 different IRC networks known to be operating, of which the open source Libera chat, founded in May 2021, has the most users, with 20,374 on 26 servers; between them, the top 100 IRC networks share over 100 thousand channels operating on about one thousand servers. This simply implies that IRC is still in use, as more users keep joining the network.

How I got started on IRC

  1. Downloaded and installed mIRC, an IRC client/ software.
  2. Referred to the user guide and help which should is available for the client; these will explain how to perform common tasks with your software.
  3. Supplied the name by which I wish to be known.
  4. Chose a Rizon server and connected
  5. Read the important notices that pops-up, as well as information on the more popular channels. This includes the terms of use that will found on the most IRC networks.
  6. Located the mIRC channel, i.e. #mirc.
  7. Then went on to chat.

Getting started was fun, I hope to have an amazing experience on IRC.
